Progress on provable inference for large language models

By Abilitix · November 05, 2026

Anthropic published progress on provable inference for large language models two days ago, and the timing tells you everything about where enterprise AI is heading in 2027.

Here's the contrarian take: while every vendor pitches you on bigger models and faster tokens, the real compliance gap is verification. You can't audit what you can't prove.

The evidence sits in three places. First, APRA CPG 234 requires demonstrable control over model behaviour under stress — not documented intent, actual proof. Second, ISO/IEC 42001 clause 6.1.4 mandates traceability of AI system outputs back to decision logic. Third, the NIST AI RMF's "valid and reliable" standard collapses the moment you can't reproduce an inference path under audit conditions.

Provable inference changes that equation. When you can cryptographically demonstrate that a model's output follows from its input and weights — not just explain it post-hoc, but prove it mathematically — you've moved from "we think it works this way" to "we can show the auditor exactly why it returned this result."

At Abilitix Consulting, we've spent 25+ years mapping enterprise delivery to regulatory frameworks, and the pattern is consistent: the control that matters is the one you can verify when the regulator asks. Documentation doesn't substitute for determinism.

This matters because your 2027 AI strategy will be stress-tested not by how well your models perform in production, but by whether you can defend their decisions when something breaks. Provability becomes your evidence base.

If your AI governance framework relies on explainability alone, where's your verification layer when the compliance officer needs evidence, not narrative?
