LLMs are making formal software verification feasible at a much larger scale

By QikAI · October 23, 2026

Anthropic's work on formal software verification landed yesterday, and the numbers tell you everything about where production AI governance is headed.

Formal verification—mathematically proving code does exactly what it's supposed to, nothing more—has been confined to aerospace and chip design for decades. Too expensive, too slow, too specialized. LLMs just made it orders of magnitude cheaper to deploy at enterprise scale.

Here's the story underneath: verification has always been a capacity problem, not a knowledge problem. The techniques work. But you need experts who can write proofs, and those experts cost $300K+ and take years to train. When we built ELMo at QikAI, the compliance logic alone would have taken a specialist weeks to verify manually. Now? The same LLM that writes the agent can generate verification proofs in parallel.

The lesson isn't that AI makes your code safer by writing better Python. LLMs shift verification from a gatekeeping function—something you do to mission-critical modules if you have budget—to a continuous hygiene layer you run on every commit. That changes the economics of regulated AI deployment entirely.

APRA CPS 230 already requires material change testing. PCI-DSS demands demonstrable control over cardholder data flows. Both stop short of proving correctness because proof was historically unaffordable. When proof costs less than manual QA, compliance officers will demand it, and boards will ask why you're still relying on testing samples instead of exhaustive guarantees.

Production readiness comes down to how much of your system you can defend with certainty rather than probability.

How are you preparing for a compliance environment that expects proof, not best effort?
