⚡ Breaking - Ericsson and MTN continue MTN MoMo transition

đź“° BREAKING

Ericsson just extended its contract with MTN to manage the transition of MTN MoMo—Africa's largest mobile money platform with 62M+ active wallets.

This isn't routine vendor renewal. It's proof that SuperApp-scale fintech infrastructure in emerging markets is too operationally complex to run on legacy telco core systems. MTN is carving out MoMo onto separate rails while Ericsson handles the migration risk.

The pattern matters for anyone running telecom-fintech convergence plays in regulated markets: the infrastructure separation happens before the commercial spin-off. MTN already filed for a MoMo IPO. The technical de-coupling had to come first.

If you're a telco CXO evaluating mobile money or financial services expansion, watch how MTN is staging this. The sequence of moves—architecture first, then capitalization—is the playbook.

Follow for more on how SuperApp infrastructure is being rebuilt in Asia and Africa.
